[S-IT19] Models for Earth's Mantle

Poster

Debate remains, and viable models compete to describe the mantle's structure, mineralogy, heat production, and local and bulk compositional domains. Geophysical and geochemical observations of the mantle back by geodynamic and petrological models identify the mantle transition zone (MTZ) and the base of the mantle (CMB) as the two most diverse and dynamic locations controlling it evolution. Recent advances in experimental and theoretical studies provide new insights into the Earth's mantle, including the nature and origin of the LLSVP, ULVZ, and MTZ, identification and evolution of subducted lithosphere, links between LLSVP and oceanic intraplate magmatism, insights from 142Nd, 182W, and Noble gas isotopes, and more. We anticipate presentations on recent advances on the physical and chemical properties of deep mantle, insights from short-lived isotope systems, approaches from geoneutrino experiments and discussions regarding the latest views of the origin and evolution various mantle domains. We will promote interdisciplinary collaboration and welcome a broad diversity of geoscientists to contribute ideas and presentations to our session. We seek voices of wisdom from the young to the senior.
