Stable supply of metal resources is necessary for future industrial development and realization of a sustainable society. Supply of copper, one of the base metals, is largely dependent on overseas porphyry copper deposits, and the discovery of new porphyry copper deposits is expected to ensure a continuous supply of copper. The purpose of this study is to clarify a relationship between the ore tonnages in main deposits and the developments of hydrothermal alteration minerals by using the mineral content estimation maps contained in GRIAS (Geo-Resource Information Archive System), developed by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. This presentation will show the results of a statistical analysis of the 53 deposits in South America between S11° to S45°, where the production volume and grade of each deposit are registered in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) database, as well as the identification of prospective sites in the target area and a method proposed to improve the accuracy of the analysis.
