[SSS04-P07] Estimating Rayleigh wave speed from a theoretical relation of ocean bottom pressure and vertical acceleration

Traditional studies utilize ocean-bottom vertical accelerations recorded by a station array to estimate the velocity structure of the Earth. The recordings of seafloor pressure is largely ignored in ocean-bottom seismology. In this study, we use realistic seismic observations to demonstrate that the ocean-bottom pressure and vertical seafloor acceleration satisfy a theoretical relation. For frequencies below the resonance frequency, the relation is a function of seismic wave speed. Thus, a method is developed to derive the Rayleigh wave phase velocity using recordings of pressure and vertical seafloor acceleration. The method is applicable to data at a single station, and it is suitable to constrain shallow Earth properties. This study implies that it is worth exploring the usage of ocean-bottom pressure of high frequencies in seafloor seismology.
