In this presentation, we pick up the "Special seminar for volcano disaster risk reduction" under the Consortium for Human Resource Development in Volcanology project and discuss the past initiatives, challenges, and future prospects of the project.
The Special Seminar for Volcano Disaster Risk Reduction is intended for those who are in charge of volcano disaster prevention and volcano research in local governments and private companies that are participating in the consortium. At the same time, it is designed as an opportunity for students to learn about volcano disaster risk reduction administration and operations.
In there, in addition to presentations on the work and research of local governments and companies, participants attend lectures on a theme, visit local volcano sites, and engage in comprehensive discussions on an issue.
Seminar began in 2018 and has been held over the past five years in Nagasaki (Unzen), Nagano (Ueda), Kumamoto (Aso), Kagoshima (Sakurajima), and Kanagawa (Hakone) prefectures. The most recent seminar in 2022 was held in Hakone under the theme of "Volcano Disaster Prevention and Tourism". A total of 46 people participated, including 8 local governments (including 3 online participants), 4 private companies, 2 national organizations, and volcano researchers and 7 students.
Many participants mentioned the advantages of hearing the ideas and opinions of people in different positions, and of deepening their understanding by listening to the lecturers' explanations directly at the site. On the other hand, there are some challenges, such as continued exchange and the establishment of regular learning opportunities.
Through this presentation, we discuss about challenges and better prospects for the future.
