[S-TT35] Synthetic Aperture Radar and its application

Thu. May 30, 2024 12:00 PM - 12:15 PM 202 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

ALOS-2 and Sentinel-1, which were launched in 2014, have been brought abundant archive data by long-term operations more than nine years. In conjunction with long-term archive data since the 1990s when JERS-1 had been operated and with various satellite SAR observations, we are now facing a SAR big data era. Such a trend will grow because of 1) coming the launch of next-generation advanced SAR satellites such as ALOS-4 and NISAR, 2) a worldwide trend to an open and free data policy of satellite data, and 3) the situation of small SAR satellite constellation plans by private sectors. In addition, there have been reported applications of AI techniques for SAR data analysis, and novel observation platforms, such as ground-based SAR with high temporal resolution and UAV-SAR with operational flexibility. These progresses indicate that the SAR utilization has become widespread in both basic researches (e.g., earth science) and diverse applications (e.g., disaster prevention, and forest monitoring). In this session, we would like to invite various kinds of research and application results with regard to SAR, sharing our knowledge and having a discussion for the advancement of the SAR utilization.
