[S-VC27] Mitigation of volcanic disasters - basic and applied researches

Fri. May 31, 2024 5:15 PM - 6:45 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 6, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Shinji Takarada(Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Yasuhiro Ishimine(Mount Fuji Research Institute, Yamanashi Prefectural Government), Tatsuro Chiba(Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd.), Yousuke Miyagi(National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience)

Volcanic disasters are caused by many volcanic phenomena, including ash fall, ballistics, pyroclastic flow, debris avalanche, lahar, and lava flow. A wide range of technologies, including simulation, data processing on GIS, and communication techniques, are required to minimize damages caused by volcanic hazards. It is essential to research volcanic hazards mapping, eruption scenarios, event trees, estimation of tephra falls, and probabilistic eruption assessments and develop basic volcanic research to support hazard assessments. This session invites presentations and broad reviews related to these topics. Contributions to database technology, case studies of social and school education, the Next Generation Volcano Research, and specific examples of eruption crisis events are also encouraged.
