[U-09] How can we utilize leading measurements and SNS to create environmental / disaster prevention maps?

In recent years, natural disasters such as heavy rains, big earthquakes, and submarine volcanic eruptions have occurred frequently in Japan. There are also concerns about changes in vegetation and marine pollution associated with these natural disasters. From this background, Environmental Disaster Response Committee of JpGU (Japan Geoscience Union) has continued to hold discussions on how the union can work together on the environment and disaster prevention through Union sessions. We learned that various academic societies are taking advanced initiatives through these sessions. However, in the aftermath of rapid environmental changes due to global warming and frequent disasters, information is still confusing, and there are many cases where the wisdom of the Coalition is not necessarily reflected in lifesaving and vegetation restoration efforts. On the other hand, efforts to map disasters at the citizen level by making full use of leading measurement and geographic information grasping technologies such as remote sensing and GIS, as well as SNS, are also attracting attention. Based on the above background, this session will focus on environmental and disaster prevention maps, and will have experts from various fields introduce their current status and future prospects. As a coalition, we will deepen discussions on how these technologies should evolve in order to jointly tackle environmental and disaster prevention issues, including both researchers and citizens.
