[AAS03-11] Representation of terrestrial vegetation greenness in Earth system models and its relationship with atmospheric circulation

キーワード:地球システムモデル、陸上植生、大気鉛直循環
Terrestrial vegetation not only impacts the exchange of materials between the land surface and the atmosphere but also plays a significant role in influencing heat, water, and momentum exchanges. Despite many Earth system models (ESMs) explicitly predicting leaf area index (LAI), which indicates the density of land vegetation, the extent of bias and its implications for climate projection have not been sufficiently investigated. This study delves into the effect of LAI bias on modeled atmospheric circulation by comparing experiments where LAI was explicitly predicted with those utilizing observed LAI values, employing the Earth system model MIROC-ES2L. Furthermore, we assess the impact of LAI bias on climate representation across other ESMs participating in CMIP6.
