Agricultural production is greatly affected by natural environment conditions such as sunlight, water, temperature and soil. Climate variability may cause negative effects such as reduced yield, poor quality, and increased diseases. It is important to determine the water requirement for utilization and allocation of agricultural irrigation water resources while extreme weather occurs more and more frequently. In this study, a paddy field with 4,884 m2 of area in Xinpu Town, Hsinchu County was chosen as a study case. The water source is mainly applied from Fongshan River by Wufenpu irrigation Tunnel. The hydrological cycle analysis of the paddy field environment was carried out based on the principle of water balance through CROPWAT model developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). A weather station was deployed nearby the paddy field to monitor the meteorological data. The meteorological data was captured and recorded in data logger every 10 minutes automatically. The meteorological conditions including temperature, humidity, wind speed, sunshine and rainfall were used in CROPWAT model to evaluate the water consumption during the irrigation period. The possible water requirement can be estimated for every decade of crop growth duration. The paddy ridge could additionally store water during irrigation period depend on height of paddy ridge. In this study, the water balance theory is used to establish a paddy field hydrological model. The calculation of modeling includes crop water demand, rainfall and infiltration amount. In Taiwan, 90% of the paddy ridge heights are 7 to 30 cm. The infiltration amount can be determined according to the conditions of different paddy ridge heights of 7, 14, and 28 cm.
