[AHW18-P11] Characteristics of lake and precipitation components observed around Syowa Station and ice-free areas, Antarctica

Antarctica is located at the most remote and most vulnerable region for climate and environmental change, which 98 % of the continent is covered by ice sheets. However, remaining 2 % of continent are seasonally or permanently ice-free areas, which are located mainly in the coastal areas of Antarctica.
There are also several ice-free areas are located near Showa Station. In these areas, snow and ice are melting for several weeks in the summer, and lakes and streams are appeared. Studies on aquatic life in these areas have been conducted in the past. However, the chemical composition of the water body has rarely been studied. The speaker participated in the 63rd Japan Antarctic Regional Expedition, and collected stream water, snowfall and snow cover in January 2021 in several ice-free areas on the Soya Coast, where Showa Station is located. The presentation will focus on the results of observations of major ions, TN, TP, Si concentration in these environmental medias.
