[HCG25-P01] Enhanced decentralized wastewater treatment system: improved Johkasou that support sustainable water recycling
Keywords:Johkasou, recycled water
In areas of Japan where there is no sewerage system, one of the decentralized wastewater treatment system named Johkasou are used. This area is located near the upstream of a river, which provides a source of drinking water for downstream communities. The Johkasou treated water still contains more pollutants than the river, and it is discharged into groundwater and rivers. Improvement of this Johkasou-treated water quality protects the safety of drinking water sources in downstream areas. In addition, we also believe that an improvement of Johkasou treated quality can provide effective water usage (i.e. water reuse, saving water consumption) in a household or community. The object of this study is to select a suitable method to improve Johkasou treated water. We are now selecting methods in terms of environmentally friendly, cost effectivity, and sustainability to achieve the objective.
