[HSC07-P12] Suggestion of the carbon sequestration in the ocean by carbonation using the concrete
Keywords:carbon sequestration , concrete, carbonation, CO2 hydrate
In addition, the liquid CO2 comes to have a bigger density than seawater on conditions more than depth of the water about 3,000m (30MPa).
Based on these two knowledge, suggest a method of the carbon sequestration in the ocean by carbonation using the concrete.
1.Abolished concrete is made fragmenting it and increases the ratio surface area, is placed in the bottom of the sea where is deeper than water depth 3,000m and forms a mound.
2.Release liquid CO2 on the mound of the abolished concrete. The liquid CO2 released to the sea area where is deeper than water depth 3,000m, produces a hydrate film in the interface. As the density of the liquid CO2 is bigger than seawater, move downward and penetrate into a mound of the abolished concrete.
3.The hydrate film covering the liquid CO2 dissolves in seawater with progress at time. CO2 contacts concrete, and is trapped by carbonation using the concrete.
In the current as for carbon storage/sequestration of CCS, only the underground storage is accepted situation by London protocol. This method is demonstrated and if is recognized by London protocol, carbon sequestration can be carried out.
