Scientific data produced by research activities are of multifaceted importance, not only for the promotion of scientific research, but also as a basis for social decision-making and consensus building based on it. Therefore, domestic and international activities related to scientific data ranges from international organizations such as the International Science Council (ISC) to domestic academic societies and research institutes, as well as government agencies and funding agencies involved in the formulation of and support for science policy. In order to discuss these issues from multifaceted viewpoints and promote international collaboration among organizations involved in the establishment, dissemination, and utilization of scientific data infrastructure, the Science Council of Japan established the International Science Data Subcommittee under the Informatics Committee. This subcommittee deliberates on scientific data activities from an international perspective, and plays a role in responding to the activities of two international organizations under the ISC, the Committee on Data (CODATA) and the World Data System (WDS). In this presentation, we would like to introduce the activities of this subcommittee and discuss current issues and future prospects.
