Keywords:river water quality, groundwater quality, geology, water quality formation, the Agatsuma River

In this study, we investigated river water and groundwater in the headwaters of the Agatsuma River. There are several volcanoes in the study area. and volcanic rocks are widely distributed. On the other hand, agricultural activities are taking place at the foot of the volcano. The objective of this study was to investigate river water and spring water in the headwaters of the Agatsuma River and to clarify the factors affecting water quality. This study covers pH, electrical conductivity, concentrations of major ions (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, NO3-, SO42-, HCO3-) and SiO2 concentrations. The quality of river water and groundwater in the study area varied in pH, conductivity, and ion concentrations. River water and groundwater in the headwaters of the Agatsuma River may have exhibited different characteristics in different watersheds and mountain bodies due to geological and anthropogenic influences.
