Keywords:The Geological Society of Japan, Short Courses

The Geological Society of Japan initiated short courses as alternative events to academic conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Up until February 2024, a total of 10 short courses have been held, receiving acclaim from various participants, regardless of their membership status in the geological society. The topics covered in these courses are as follows:

1st Course (September 19, 2020): Structural Evolution of East Asia, Archean (Lecturers: Tatsuki Tsujimori & Hikaru Sawada)
2nd Course (October 24, 2020): Stratigraphy, Data Analysis using R (Lecturers: Reishi Takashima & Kenta Kamiki)
3rd Course (May 23, 2021): Tsunami Deposits (Lecturers: Shigehiro Fujino & Kazuhisa Goto)
4th Course (July 18, 2021): Paper Writing, History of Science (Lecturers: Yukio Isozaki & Jiro Tomari)
5th Course (October 3, 2021): Applied Geology and GIS (Lecturers: Hidehisa Nagata & Shinji Takarada)
6th Course (December 18, 2022): Forensic Geology and Accretionary Prism Geology (Lecturers: Ritsuko Sugita & Asuka Yamaguchi)
7th Course (April 2, 2023): Stress Inversion Analysis Method (Lecturers: Katsushi Sato & Makoto Otsubo)
8th Course (July 2, 2023): Radiometric Age Dating (Lecturers: Takafumi Hirata & Makoto Takeuchi)
9th Course (October 22, 2023): Stress Inversion Analysis Method (Lecturers: Katsushi Sato & Makoto Otsubo) *Same content as the 7th course
10th Course (February 25, 2024): Seafloor Mineral Resources (Lecturers: Kentaro Nakamura & Shiki Machida)

In this presentation, we would like to review the history of these short courses and discuss the future direction of such events as organized by the Geological Society of Japan.
