Mt. Kurikoma Area Geopark Promotion Committee is promoting the introduction of “Leave No Trace” from 2022.
Leave No Trace is an environmental ethics program for enjoying the outdoors while minimizing environmental impact. Its methods are all summarized in seven principles, which are now the standard of conduct for outdoor recreation in 90 countries around the world.
In the Mt. Kurikoma Area Geopark, the Kurikoma Kogen Nature School, a member of the Mt. Kurikoma Area Geopark Promotion Committee, is promoting the spread of LNT. In particular, the LNT philosophy and experience were shared in the process of creating a promenade. In addition, since the overuse of the autumn foliage season of Mt. Kurikoma was adopted as a "hot spot program" for the LNTJ-supported project in 2022, cooperation among members based on LNT is also being promoted.
This presentation will outline the process of introduction and development of LNT in this geopark. It will then organize and share the development of activities using LNT, examples of collaboration, and the results of each.
