1. Key points of the presentation

Many people may feel that the earth is infinitely large. We would like to report on an event that is jointly planned by two museums and an art gallery in the Tateyama Kurobe Geopark area, to experience the finiteness of the Earth. Someone will say that the Earth is surprisingly small.

2. At Toyama Bay, we realize that the earth is round.

In the case of an arched bridge, such as the Nihonbashi, from one end the opposite end is hidden by the road surface. Similarly, in Toyama Bay, part of the opposite shore is hidden behind the horizon. If we look at Shinminato Ohashi Bridge in Imizu City on the other side of Toyama Bay from Ikuji Beach in Kurobe City, the roadway visible from the top of the embankment (6 meters high) disappears behind the horizon as you sit the beach (1 meter height). The horizontal distance between the two locations is 30km, and the height of the roadway is 47m.

3. Motivation

It is not well known that the roundness of the earth can be observed in Toyama Bay. In fact, there were few participants at events themed around the roundness of the Earth, suggesting that there was little interest in the event. When we observe the opposite shore from a low viewpoint, we can often see a mirage, which is fun. The “infinity~mirage'' project, a collaboration between art and mirage, has already been carried out. In addition to the roundness of the earth, the project “Shinkiro with E-bikes!'' incorporates the sports element of traveling on E-bikes, started to move.

4. A step towards sustainability

The concept is to appreciate art and mirage on the other side of the horizon, and experience the roundness and finiteness of the earth while riding an electric bicycle. We believe that participants' experiences will influence attitudes towards global issues such as climate change.
