[O08-P96] Examination of Criteria for Determining Types of Earthquakes Occurring in the Tohoku Region
Keywords:Earthquake, plate boundary, Tohoku region
In this study, I attempted to determine the type of earthquake based on the difference in depth between the hypocenter and the plate boundary and the slip angle of the earthquake based on several criteria. I also determined the angle between the normal vectors of the plate and the fault plane, and the distance between the depth of the hypocenter and the plate boundary at the same latitude and longitude as the epicenter of the earthquake. We then examined whether there was any correlation between the two. These data indicate that the direction of stress changes around 25 km below the oceanic plate surface. The data also suggest the possibility that earthquakes that shift in a different direction from plate boundary earthquakes occur in the plate or within the fractures between plate boundaries.
