In this presentation, we introduce the project “Large-scale numerical simulation of earthquakes by Fugaku supercomputer” conducted as one of the projects in MEXT’s “The Program for Promoting Research on the Supercomputer Fugaku”. The purpose of this project is to developcomputational methods capable of using large-scale computation for contribution to earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation to realize a sustainable society in response to earthquakes. Together with new developments in computational science through the convergence of large-scale simulation, AI, and data science, we will develop large-scale earthquake simulation methods using Fugaku towards practical implementation that meets the needs of government and industry, based on collaboration with researchers and experts in computational science, data science, earthquake engineering, and seismology fields from the government, industry, national laboratories, and universities. We will introduce the project and the results obtained in the first year of this project in the presentation.
