This research aims to perform a preliminary analysis of the groundwater system on Tongatapu Island by combining radiocarbon dating and water quality analysis, with the objective of assessing the groundwater recharge process and the current state of water quality. Groundwater samples will be collected from representative wells and springs on the island. The age of the groundwater will be estimated through radiocarbon analysis, while water quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, and major ion concentrations will be measured. The expected outcome of this preliminary analysis is to gain an initial understanding of Tongatapu Island's groundwater system, with a particular focus on the age and chemical characteristics of the groundwater.
This presentation will focus on discussing the results of these measurements.
