The Asian Precipitation Experiment (AsiaPEX) will conduct an integrated observational and modeling initiative, the Asian Monsoon Years (AMY)-II in the second half of the 2020s. One of the core components of the AMY-II is a coordinated and carefully planned field campaign to understand key processes of the Asian hydroclimatological system driven by the Asian monsoon circulation, which is changing under the global warming. The Asian hydroclimatological system is an amalgam of sub-regional and hemispheric processes interacting with each other. We will plan different observational platforms focusing on specific spatial coverage at different spatio-temporal scales, each with its own background, scientific and societal objectives, and processes that need to be focused on to be understood. In this session, we will discuss many proposals for sub-regional and hemispheric observational platforms. At the same time, we will integrate from the point of view of six approaches in the AsiaPEX; 1) the observation and estimation of Asian precipitation, 2) process study focusing on land-atmosphere coupling, 3) predictability of S2S to decadal variability, 4) high-resolution hydrological modeling incorporating humanosphere and cryosphere, 5) modeling and remote sensing initiatives, and 6) detection and projection of climate change. We will propose the possible Intensive Observation Period (IOP) for AMY-II based on all the presentations in this session.
