[A-OS17] Marine microbial ecology

Tue. May 27, 2025 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Exhibition Hall Special Setting (2) (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Tatsuhiko Hoshino(Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Susumu Yoshizawa(The University of Tokyo), Yosuke Yamada(JAMSTEC Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Chairperson:Tatsuhiko Hoshino(Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Susumu Yoshizawa(The University of Tokyo), Yosuke Yamada(JAMSTEC Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)

Marine microorganisms play a crucial role in the biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen and other elements, supporting ecosystem functions on a global scale. Understanding the diverse biological processes carried out by microorganisms - from primary production and decomposition of organic matter to nitrogen fixation - is essential for understanding the marine environment and predicting climate change. Furthermore, understanding the responses of microbial communities to environmental change is key to assessing resilience or recovery capacity, but also the resistance or endurance of ecosystems. This session broadly invites research on the diversity, function and dynamic interactions of marine microorganisms with their environment, with the aim of delving deeper into the immeasurable role that microorganisms play in the Earth's ecosystem.
