This session will focus on sea level rise due to global warming and its impacts on coastal regions. We invite research results from a wide range of perspectives, from global mean sea level rise on a millennial scale to extreme sea levels.
There is serious concern that sea level rise will have long-term impacts over the coming centuries, driven by factors such as thermal expansion of seawater, and melting of ice sheets and glaciers. Additionally, coastal areas are expected to experience more frequent storm surges, which used to occur once every 100 years, due to global warming. Understanding future coastal extreme sea levels and assessing disaster risks is crucial for effective hazard management and infrastructure planning. This session aims to bring together the latest research on global-scale, long-term sea level rise, and regional extreme sea level events, facilitating knowledge sharing for impact assessment and risk management
