[M-AG34] Radioisotope migration: Development from Environmental Dynamics Research on the F1NPS Accident

Thu. May 29, 2025 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 105 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Daisuke Tsumune(University of Tsukuba), Naofumi Akata(Hirosaki University), Hiroaki Kato(Center for Research in Isotopes and Environmental Dynamics, University of Tsukuba), Shigeyoshi Otosaka(Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo), Chairperson:Hiroaki Kato(Center for Research in Isotopes and Environmental Dynamics, University of Tsukuba), Naofumi Akata(Hirosaki University)

13 years have passed since the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (F1NPS), which was triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. The environmental dynamics process of radionuclides released by the F1NPS has been revealed, but there are still many issues to be solved, such as the migration process across sphere. It is important to understand the chemical element processes in the migration process across the sphere for new development on the environmental dynamics study of the F1NPS accident. Furthermore, in addition to radioactive cesium, which has been the main target, it is necessary to combine the understanding of the dynamics of rare long-lived nuclides and natural radioactive nuclides, and to organize them as permanently available radioisotope tracers. In addition, it is desirable to expand the sphere and the time scale by collaborating with research on geological disposal of radioactive waste. More scientific understanding and discussion is desired for the ongoing oceanic discharge of ALPS treated water from the F1NPS.
In this session, we would like to summarize our research activities to date and deepen the discussion on cross-disciplinary research issues for new developments in the study of environmental dynamics of the Fukushima nuclear accident.
