Extracting fundamental physicochemical processes and structures hidden in observational and analytical data is essential to understanding and predicting the dynamic behavior of the earth and planetary systems. Many powerful data-driven methodologies to extract fundamental information from high-dimensional data sets have recently been developed in mathematical and information sciences and applied to various earth sciences, including solid earth, space and planet, biogeosciences, and atmospheric and hydrospheric sciences. This session aims to provide an opportunity for the presentation of results of data-driven analyses and new data analysis methods, including those in the early stages of development, and for the exchange of information and opinions, as well as for interdisciplinary research exchanges within and outside the earth sciences. Discussions in this session among researchers from a variety of fields who are interested in extracting processes and structures from earth science data and in mathematical analysis of such data will promote the application of data analysis methods to earth science data from new perspectives and further accelerate the application of mathematical and information sciences to earth science.
