This session aims to highlight advancements in geodetic and remote sensing technologies for observing and analyzing crustal dynamics, natural hazards, and environmental changes in Taiwan and surrounding regions. Located at the convergence of the Philippine Sea and Eurasian plates, this region faces high seismicity, frequent land subsidence, and significant coastal variations, providing a unique field for geoscientific research.
This session will address geodetic observations of solid Earth processes, focusing on issues related to natural hazards, such as land subsidence and earthquakes, and environmental changes, including coastline monitoring and the establishment of time-dependent datums/reference frames. Studies utilizing geodetic methods such as GNSS, InSAR, and gravimetry are encouraged, with specific applications for land subsidence monitoring, earthquake activity analysis, and coastline change tracking. With recent advancements in multi-scale InSAR, high-frequency GNSS data, and dynamic reference frameworks, the accuracy and temporal resolution of observations in tectonic and environmental monitoring have significantly improved.
The outcomes from this session are expected to contribute to governmental disaster management strategies, protection of infrastructure, and environmental conservation efforts, underscoring the practical importance of geodetic research in risk mitigation. This session is intended as a platform for researchers to share insights into the applications, theories, and techniques of geodesy, emphasizing innovations that advance hazard assessment and environmental monitoring capabilities.
