Seismic waves contain a wealth of information related to heterogeneous structures of the Earth's interior and the excitation sources of oscillation. To appropriately interpret and utilize this rich information, various approaches are required, such as mathematical and numerical studies based on solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, and wave theory, as well as experimental research using rock samples, and analysis of observational data. Moreover, recent advances in observation technology have made available large amount of high-quality data, not only on seismic waves but also on other wave phenomena such as tsunamis and atmospheric pressure waves. A comprehensive understanding of these wave phenomena will lead new research fields related to the solid Earth. In this session, focusing on the fields of seismology and geophysical exploration, we aim to deepen our comprehensive understanding of various wave phenomena related to the solid Earth. This includes theoretical and experimental research based on wave theory, quantitative research of the inner Earth structure using observational data, verification of various natural and social phenomena that excite vibrations in the Earth, and so on.
