[S-VC30] International Volcanology

Wed. May 28, 2025 5:15 PM - 7:15 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Chris Conway(Geological Survey of Japan, AIST), Keiko Matsumoto(Geological Survey of Japan, The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Taishi Yamada(Sakurajima Volcano Research Center, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University), Masataka Kawaguchi(Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo)

The aim of this session is to share global perspectives on fundamental research in volcanology, by comparing case studies of volcanism in Japan and abroad. Each year, the session will be centred around a research theme that will help to promote discussion and connection between participants and attendees. The theme for International Volcanology this year is: Interactions.
We welcome presentations on research that focusses on interactions that are associated with volcanoes and their eruptions, including (but not limited to) those that occur between: magmas from different sources; melts, fluids, volatiles, and crystals; eruptive products and the atmosphere, hydrosphere, or cryosphere; volcanic activity and society; magma sources and the surrounding crust; and volcanic and tectonic processes.
This session provides a platform for Japanese researchers to disseminate their research to a global audience, and welcomes international participants into the JpGU community. International Volcanology offers a chance for all presenters to share lessons from their research that will yield greater understanding of the universal aspects of volcanic systems and eruptions, build international collaboration networks, and improve mitigation of future volcanic hazards.
