[S-VC33] Mechanism of volcanic eruptions

Mon. May 26, 2025 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Convention Hall (CH-B) (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Mayumi Mujin(Hokkaido University), Ryo Tanaka(Hokkaido University,Institute of Seismology and Volcanology), Takafumi Maruishi(National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience ), Dan Muramatsu(Earthquake Reserch Institute, The University of Tokyo), Chairperson:Mayumi Mujin(Tohoku University), Dan Muramatsu(Earthquake Reserch Institute, The University of Tokyo), Masataka Kawaguchi(Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo), Keiko Matsumoto(Geological Survey of Japan, The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology)

Multiple processes are involved in volcanic eruptions, including magma accumulation at depth, vesiculation and crystallization during magma ascent in volcanic conduits, and dispersion of volcanic products. We will discuss the mechanism of volcanic eruptions to elucidate these processes and understand volcanic eruption phenomena from an integrated view. We welcome contributions from geophysical and geochemical observations of active/quiet volcanoes, petrological/geochemical measurements of eruptive products, theoretical approaches, numerical simulations, laboratory experiments, and interdisciplinary studies that combine the above approaches.
