This study investigates the spatial and temporal trends of carbon monoxide (CO) and tropospheric formaldehyde (HCHO) concentrations in the Ib River Catchment from 2019 to 2024 using data from the Sentinel-5P satellite and Google Earth Engine (GEE). The Ib River Catchment, a significant tributary of the Mahanadi River in eastern India, is critical for its ecological and economic importance, yet it faces mounting environmental challenges due to industrial activities, urbanization, and mining operations. Sentinel-5P data, processed via GEE, provided high-resolution insights into the distribution and variability of CO and HCHO, which are key indicators of air quality and pollution. Seasonal and annual trends were analyzed to identify patterns, hotspots, and potential sources of emissions. Results indicate a consistent increase in CO and HCHO levels, with pronounced peaks during winter and post-monsoon seasons, likely driven by biomass burning, industrial emissions, and vehicular pollution. Spatial analysis revealed hotspots of high pollution near industrial zones and densely populated areas within the catchment. This study underscores the utility of integrating remote sensing technology with GEE for monitoring air quality in ecologically sensitive regions. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted mitigation strategies and stricter regulatory measures to manage air pollution in the Ib River Catchment. By providing a data-driven foundation, this research contributes to the broader discourse on environmental sustainability and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health, climate action, and sustainable ecosystems.
