[ACG36-P06] Causes of prolonged summer in Japan considering climate characteristics

*Mao Takikawa1, Yoshihiro Tachibana1 (1.Faculty of Bioresources , Mie university )

Keywords:Summer/warm season, Climate change, Sea surface temperature

The higher temperatures in spring and fall have various effects, such as increased risk of heat stroke, delays in planting crops, and higher crop prices due to crop failure. In fact, there are studies that have shown that continental summers are prolonged due to higher temperatures in spring and fall. However, there are no studies that include recent data and consider results over the ocean. In this study, we show the variation in the duration of summer and discuss its causes, taking into account the characteristics of the climate. The characteristics of summer show that summer in Japan begins and ends later than on the continent.Regarding the variation in the duration of summer, the study shows that summer is prolonged in most places in the Northern Hemisphere. The significant changes in both the start and end dates were found to be around Japan. The cause of the unique lengthening of summer around Japan can be attributed to ocean warming.
