[ACG38-08] Observational study on boreal summer intraseasonal oscillations over the tropical Western North Pacific
★Invited Papers
Keywords:BSISO, Precipitation process, Air-sea interaction, Shipborne observation
In order to deepen our understanding of physical mechanisms for intensification and migration of the BSISO over the WNP, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has repeatedly conducted research cruises using research vessel (R/V) Mirai since 1998. In these research cruises, the R/V Mirai stayed at a particular location for weeks to perform a variety of atmospheric and oceanographic measurements, such as C-band Doppler radar observation, upper-air soundings, and oceanographic measurements of temperature and salinity profiles. Analyses of observation data collected during these cruises have revealed many aspects of BSISO and other types of intraseasonal variability. In this talk, I will argue air-sea interaction and preconditioning processes for active convective phase of BSISO, and present initial results of our recent research cruises.
