[AHW28-P11] A Software Package for Three-Dimensional Transport of Coexisting Chlorinated Solvent Contaminants in Groundwater under Time-Varying Source Discharge Concentrations
キーワード:analytical models, time-varying inlet boundary conditions , site management module, transport simulation, health risk assessment, geographical visualization
Chlorinated solvents are common groundwater contaminants, often resulting in the coexistence of parent compounds and their degradation products during transport. Developing practical analytical models for reactive transport is essential for accurately simulating plume migration of chlorinated solvent in complex chemical mixtures.
Among existing software for evaluating reactive transport in groundwater, BIOCHLOR and REMChlor, provided by the USEPA, are widely used. However, these models assume identical retardation factors for all chlorinated solvents, limiting their applicability. To overcome this limitation, we have developed advanced analytical models for three-dimensional reactive transport that account for varying retardation factors under dynamic, time-varying inlet boundary conditions influenced by remediation efforts. The model incorporates three distinct inlet functions: constant, exponentially decaying, and piecewise constant.
These models are integrated into MUSt version 2, a software package designed for efficient management of groundwater chlorinated solvent-contaminated sites. The software includes: A site management module for spatially mapping geology, hydrology, and contamination data. A transport simulation module, featuring FORTRAN-based executable files integrated into an interactive graphical user interface (GUI). A health risk assessment module, combining advanced transport models with a health risk model to evaluate both carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic risks. A geographical visualization module, providing mapping tools for simulated contaminant distribution and health risk integration into interactive, comprehensive maps. In summary, MUSt version 2 is a powerful tool for professionals engaged in the assessment and remediation of chlorinated solvent-contaminated sites, combining advanced modeling capabilities with intuitive geographical visualization.
