[AOS13-P05] Carbon Export in the Western North Pacific

One of the main pathways to sequester atmospheric carbon dioxide is carbon export from the surface water into the deep ocean, where carbon is exported through biological processes such as Mixed Layer Pump, where Particulate Organic Carbon (POC) —consisted of plankton, detritus, and other living cells—is exported into the depth by increased wind mixing. The increased wind mixing will shoal the mixed layer and thus the POC will be trapped and exported to the depth. Biogeochemical Argo (BGC Argo) data is used to calculate the POC from the backscattering particle at 700 nm. Understanding the impact of the MLP will lead to a better understanding of the role of Western North Pacific in the carbon export and cycle.
