[AOS15-P03] Spatial distribution of the photosynthetic factors controlling primary production in the ocean: Satellite view

*Takafumi Hirata1 (1.Arctic Research Center, Hokkaido University)

Keywords:ocean photosynthesis, remote sensing

Ocean primary production explains roughly half of the global primary production and plays an important role in the global carbon cycle. The primary production depends on not only physiology of photosynthetic organims but also environment. Various photosynthetic models have been developed so far, including modelling and observational approaches. Arguably, satellite remote sensing stands between modelling and observational approaches, and it uses a unique model focusing on the optical aspects due to a principle of the remote sensing. Here we evaluate factors controlling the algal photosynthesis based on the satellite approach and discuss how the photosynthesis "is viewed" from the satellite.
