[EV16-05] "Peering Into the Ocean, Seeing the Earth" - Explore with JAMSTEC! The Cutting Edge of Ocean and Earth Sciences: Global Change Day

16:00-17:00 | "The Ocean and Global Warming" Overview: Covering about 70% of Earth's surface, the ocean absorbs over 90% of the excess heat caused by greenhouse gases. While this heat absorption slows the progression of global warming, it also leads to issues such as sea level rise due to thermal expansion. At JAMSTEC, we conduct ocean observations and use advanced climate models to accurately assess the impact of global warming. This session will provide insight into the current state and future projections of ocean warming.

17:00-18:00 | "Understanding the Changing Arctic: Present and Future" Overview: In recent years, Earth's climate has been undergoing rapid change. The Arctic region, in particular, has experienced dramatic shifts, including rapid temperature rises and declining sea ice. This lecture will explain the current status of the Arctic's transformation and future predictions based on satellite and ocean observations, numerical simulations, and the latest icebreaker research vessel, "Mirai II."
