[G03-P03] Volcano Disaster Prevention Education Activities in Geoparks - Lecture for Geoguides in Mt. Chokai & Tobishima Geopark
Keywords:Volcano Disaster, Disaster Prevention Education, Geopark, Geoguide
Improving residents' knowledge of volcanic eruptions is essential for reducing volcanic disasters. However, volcanologists (of which I am one) do not have a network to speak directly to residents, and not many residents attend disaster prevention lectures. Therefore, it is difficult for volcanologists alone to spread knowledge that will lead to disaster mitigation.
On the other hand, there are many enthusiastic geoguides in the Geoparks. Many of them are local residents. Therefore, with the cooperation of geoguides, information can be conveyed to local residents.
In addition, as seen in the case of the Kirishima Geopark, information obtained from geoguides at the time of an eruption is also important for volcanic disaster prevention.
In this presentation, I will discuss the significance of disaster education for geoguides by introducing a lecture on disaster prevention at the Mt. Chokai & Tobishima Geopark held on February 11, 2025.
