Keywords:The "Black Rain" caused by A-bomb explosion, Radioactive fallout,, Pond sediments

We collected core sediment samples from a reservoir in the Takeda-yama Ikoi-no-Mori area of Hiroshima City, which lies within the fallout area of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb's "Black Rain" in 1945. We analyzed the vertical distribution of 137Cs concentrations and, in addition, charcoal fragments in the samples, which were likely produced by house fires caused by the atomic bombing. In this presentation, we will present the results of these analyses and evaluate whether such sediment records can be effectively used to assess the "black rain" fallout zone.
