[HDS09-01] How to use 85 tsunami monuments of 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Indonesia and issues after 20 years

20 years has passed since the 2004 Tsunami attacked Aceh and Nias in Indonesia. The 85 tsunami memorial poles were built due to visualize disaster and keep disaster awareness under the concept mixed an expert’s unique idea with Japanese old knowledge in Banda Aceh by local and NGO in Indonesia in 2008.Even children and outsiders accept hazard to evacuate higher place by each tsunami pole.
This transfers the lesson of disaster by stones moments have been constructed in disaster areas in Japan . Around 300 tsunami monuments were constructed after the 1896 Meiji and the 1933 Showa Sanriku tsunami. Thanks to the stone, no houses in Aneyoshi were inundated in the 2011 tsunami.However it is not know so much among people in the disaster areas. On the other hand, Geospatial Information Authority of Japan started to disaster monument data collect and put them on maps in 2020 for mitigation.
Disaster monuments return to being just stones if not maintained, as monuments can become covered in moss and weathered.This presentation explans challenges of disaster prevention utilization identified from 85 disaster monuments of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
