[MIS06-10] Late Quaternary tropical Indo-Pacific climate and its relation to the Australasian monsoon
★Invited Papers
The complexity of the highly dynamic climate of the tropical Indo-Pacific and its interaction with various monsoon systems makes it challenging for reconstructions and simulations of the past climate. Most climate models are unable to quantitatively reproduce the low-latitude climate in their control runs, particularly over the Maritime Continent in the tropical Indo-Pacific, which is characterized by deep atmospheric convection and weak coupling between wind and temperature fields. On the other hand, most proxy-based reconstructions of the Indo-Pacific and monsoon climate are unable to resolve the contribution of different forcing and feedback mechanisms. This contribution synthesizes the available information on the past state and variability of the tropical Indo-Pacific during the late Quaternary, inferred from proxy-based reconstructions and model simulations, and addresses some of the pitfalls and outstanding issues.
