[MIS10-04] The Path of The Kuroshio Current as Depicted by Geoparks: A Rotating Exhibition Collaborated by Multiple Regions
Keywords:The Kuroshio Current, Geopark, Exhibition, Ecosystem, Culture, Interregional Exchange
In preparation for the exhibition, multiple online meetings were held from January 2024, mainly with geopark experts from the four regions. During these meetings, we discussed the exhibition format, the topics to be covered, the content of the display panels, the photographs and charts to be used in the panels, and the exhibits to be displayed at the venue.
The exhibition panels were created by geopark experts from each region, with each person contributing according to their area of expertise. In addition, the individuals in charge of each panel came up with the physical exhibits to be placed in front of the panels and took charge of their arrangement, production, and preparation.
There are a total of eight display panels, which include: 1) Introduction (the purpose of the exhibition and an explanation of the topography), 2) Ocean Currents and the Kuroshio Current (overview of the Kuroshio Current), 3) The Changing Kuroshio Current (the great meandering and course changes), 4) The Kuroshio and Terrestrial Life, 5) The Kuroshio and Marine Life, 6) The Kuroshio and the Migration of Life, 7) The Kuroshio and Human Migration, and 8) Conclusion (a summary of the panel content).
The physical exhibits, which include a wide range of items such as models of land formation, panels of photographs and old paintings, plant seeds, charcoal, stuffed animals, and more, correspond to the explanation on the panels. The aim is to help visitors experience the relationship between the Kuroshio Current and various elements of each region by combining the textual information on the panels with the physical exhibits (some of which are hands-on).
This exhibition will travel to key facilities in the Muroto Geopark, Nanki-Kumano Geopark, Izu Peninsula Geopark, and Tosa Shimizu Geopark. In each region, related events are planned to be held to disseminate information alongside the exhibition.
