In the Tianshan Mountains, glacier-moraine complexes (GMCs), which contain glacial ice left behind by glacier shrinkage, are formed at the terminuses of glaciers, and glacigenic rock glaciers with well-defined ridges and anterior marginal slopes are formed at some of their termini. In the northern Tien Shan Mountains region, GMCs have formed at most glacier terminuses and are considered an important water resource along with glaciers and permafrost (Sorg et al., 2015), but the transition process from glacier to GMC to rock glacier is not clear. Bolch and Gorbunov (2014) worked to elucidate the formation environment of glacial-type rock glaciers in the Ili Mountains of the northern Tien Shan Mountains region, and noted that the area of rock glaciers is related to the shape of debris supply areas such as area and area/perimeter. However, the formation process of the GMC, its internal structure, and the transition process to a rock glacier are still unclear due to the lack of data on the continuous internal structure of glacier-GMC-glacier-glaciogenic rock glaciers.
In this study, we conducted an electrical survey of the interior of a glacier-GMC-rock glacier in the GMC developed in front of the Adgine Glacier in the Kyrgyz Mountains in the northern Tien Shan Mountains to clarify the interior structure of the glacier-GMC-rock glacier. In addition, we conducted vector analysis of aerial images and differential interferometric SAR analysis using microwave images to investigate the correspondence with the internal structure of the glacier.
