[MIS14-05] LGM AMOC across PMIP phases and the role of NADW/AABW density contrast
キーワード:氷期、気候モデル、大西洋子午面循環
Simulating and reproducing the past Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) with comprehensive climate models are essential to test the ability of models to simulate different climates. At the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), reconstructions show a shoaling of the AMOC compared to modern climate. However, almost all state-of-the-art climate models simulate a deeper LGM AMOC. Here, we conduct a multi-model analysis using outputs from all PMIP phases (PMIP2 to PMIP4) to consistently explore the role of density contrast netween North Atlantic deepwater formation region and Antarctic bottom water formation region in controlling the LGM AMOC. We also discuss how models can reproduce the shallow LGM AMOC inferred from proxies based on the analysis of Southern Ocean temperature and Surface wind stress over the North Atlantoc at the LGM.
