[MTT38-P02] Measurement of flow motion in convective cells and volcanic plumes by using a ship radar

*Koji Sassa1 (1.Natural Science Cluster, Kochi University)

Keywords:volcano plume, convective cell, ship radar

RHI scans using ship radar can capture detailed behavior in the vertical cross-section of convective clouds and volcanic plumes. The present study aims to investigate the flow structure of convective clouds and volcanic plumes. By tracking the pattern of radar reflectivity data obtained every three seconds by a ship radar installed at Sakurajima, we measured flow velocities in the vertical cross-section. The vortex motion of the Sakurajima wake was clearly observed in the volcanic plume.
