[MTT38-P05] Introduction of Research Results using Ebooks

There are several stages in the presentation of research results, depending on the degree of completeness of the content and the purpose of the presentation. If the degree of completion is not so high, the progress will be presented in a seminar in the laboratory. If the content is highly complete and novel in a particular field, there will be an oral presentation at an academic conference or a presentation in an academic journal. Furthermore, if the content is universal, it will be published as a textbook. The publication process of research results with such an end goal in the submission of research papers has a long history, and it will not change much in the past or in the present. On the other hand, the medium of presentation has changed significantly. In the past, books and academic journals were limited to paper-based publications, but now they are sometimes published as electronic journals or e-books. In addition, magazines and websites that can introduce the detailes of laboratory experiments in videos have appeared.
The aforementioned introduction of research results is related to academic research. Another research report is a report of a research project. For example, it is a report on Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research and Commissioned Research. In this case, there is no peer review like in academic journals, and there is a lot of freedom in the format of the report. With Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, it is no longer necessary to write a detailed report as in the past, but only to submit a list of research presentations at academic conferences. In the case of a report on contract research, it is important to ensure that the contents of the contract are steadily achieved because it is a report to the client.
The title of this paper, "Introduction of Research Results Using E-Books", is an attempt to compile a report for a research project. Specifically, we try to use the ebook to introduce the research results of JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, the "General Joint Research" of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University, and the "Project for Next-Generation Volcano Research and Human Resource Development" of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The title of the e-book is "Sakurajima Eruption Captured by Radar" (edited by Masayuki Maki and Hirohiko Nakamura). The e-book is divided into Part 1 and Part 2, and in Part 1, a total of 14 researchers explain general topics related to volcanic plumes. It is intended for students and the general public who are interested in volcanoes as readers. The results of radar analysis of past eruptions of Sakurajima are introduced in Part 2. It is intended for those in charge of volcanic disaster prevention and students majoring in volcanology, who are beginners in radar. Note that one of the advantages of eBooks is the use of videos.

Acknowledgments: We received grants from JSPS Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Subject 22K03760), the DPRI/Kyoto University, and the Project for Next-Generation Volcano Research and Human Resource Development (JPJ005391) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
