As a summary of this session, we will have a comprehensive discussion on how to deal with natural disasters from the perspective of formulating initiatives aimed at achieving a sustainable society.Rather than disaster prevention through infrastructure development or crisis management after a disaster has occurred, we will focus on the correct way to deal with and interact with nature, which encompasses all the “disasters” that can occur on the land where we live, and on recognizing the culture that has coexisted with disasters.

Building on the academic evaluation of the significance of disaster prevention measures in Geoparks, the specific activities and achievements of each Geopark, and the discussions in the first half of the symposium, we will discuss the perspectives of earth science and the construction of a sustainable society, as well as disaster prevention.

Ultimately, we will seek to determine the role of Geoparks in disaster prevention and mitigation activities aimed at the realization of a sustainable society.
