[O11-P121] Astronomical Observation in the Southern Hemisphere
Keywords:Astrophotography, Southern hemisphere
Last December we participated in an overseas training program in Sydney, Australia. During this trip, we attempted the following astronomical observations, taking advantage of Australia's location in the southern hemisphere. (1) photographing the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, and (2) creating a composite image by combining photos of the southern and Japanese skies. However, the team was plagued by the city lights and overcast skies of the big city of Sydney, and we were not very good with the camera, so they were not able to take as many photographs as they would have liked. However, we were able to see the constellation Orion in a different direction than in Japan, and we certainly felt like we were in the southern hemisphere. On our return to Japan, we were able to combine the photos of Orion into a single image by combining them with the night sky photos taken in Japan.
