[PEM12-38] The Variability of the Equatorial Ionospheric Vertical and Field-aligned Plasma Drifts During the SSW
キーワード:vertical plasma drift, field-align plasma drift, neutral wind, SSW
We use the measurements of the Ionospheric Connections Explorer (ICON) and Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) satellites to present the responses of the equatorial ionospheric vertical and field-aligned plasma drift during the 2009 and 2021 sudden stratosphere warmings (SSW). The observations show that both the vertical and field-aligned drifts present the semidiurnal disturbances during the SSW. The ICON records the afternoon northward disturbance in field-aligned plasma drift mainly due to the disturbance meridional wind. Based on the whole atmosphere model Ground-to-topside model of Atmosphere and Ionosphere for Aeronomy, the meridional wind can contribute to the disturbance field-aligned drift. Further, the semidiurnal disturbances in vertical and field-aligned drift can well explain the responses of the total electron content to the SSW and their hemispheric differences. Further, the disturbances in vertical and field-aligned plasma drifts can cause the ionosphere-plasmasphere coupling in equatorial and low latitudes. Our results give a new perspective for understanding the ionospheric perturbations during SSW.
