[PEM17-05] Energy Partition in Weakly Magnetized Relativistic Shocks
キーワード:衝撃波、プラズマ物理
Relativistic shock waves, such as gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), active galactic nuclei (AGN) jets, and fast radio burst (FRB) shocks, are thought to be the leading sources of high-energy cosmic rays and strong non-thermal emissions. Although macroscopic models for shock acceleration and escape have been developed, microscopic plasma physics is necessary to understand the injection processes and magnetic field structure in relativistic shocks. In unmagnetized and weakly magnetized shocks, the magnetic field generated by plasma instabilities, such as the Weibel instability, becomes dominant over the compressed ambient field. By theory and large-scale particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, we discuss the energy partition between thermal and non-thermal particles and the electromagnetic field in these weakly magnetized shocks. We also discuss possible applications to astrophysical phenomena such as GRBs and AGN jets.
