[SCG55-P01] Geochemical Characteristics of Marine Surface Sediments in East China Sea

*Tatera Yuka1 (1.Japan Coast Guard)

Keywords:surface sediments, multi-elements analysis, East China Sea

The concentrations of 41 major and trace elements in the 341 marine surface sediments samples collected from the East China Sea by K-grab were measured. Among them, the characteristics of the chemical composition and distribution in this research area near the surface layer were investigated.
The samples were desalted, freeze-dried, grounded and homogenized. The 10 major elements and 4 trace elements (Rb, Sr, Y, and Zr) were measured using X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF). In addition, 40 trace elements, including rare earth elements, were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) after pretreatment by acid decomposition. For the samples for particle size analysis, sediment particles with a large particle size were separated by wet-sieving. The smaller size fractions were confirmed by analyzing with a laser diffraction particle size analyzer.
From the contribution patterns of trace elements in surface sediments, we infer sediment mixing and transport mechanisms due to various geological and tectonic events in the East China Sea.
